We invite you to immerse yourself in Italian culture, the hidden knowledge of Italian theatre, and the art of character creation through immersion in the world of Pulcinella!
Commedia dell’Arte is the cradle of theatrical, street, and, of course, clown arts. It is an endless well of secrets of physical theatre, character work, rhythm, image creation, and its embodiment on stage.
Going back to the roots and peeking into the treasury of knowledge of Italian theatre will be of interest not only to those who professionally engage in the art of Commedia dell’Arte, but also to those who want to transfer these skills to their creative path—whether it’s character work and performances in clowning, dramatic theatre, street performances, or performances. And, of course, it is for everyone who wishes to grasp the art of savoring the moment and bringing play and joy into daily life.
Participants in the Laboratory will experiment their character during the celebration of the “Pulcinella – La Vita Bella,” which will take place from June 7-9, 2025, at Moulin Jaune of Slava Polunin.
Programme
– Lectures, and even a whole symposium on the history of Italy and Italian Theater, the art of working on the character of Pulcinella. The exact format of this sacred gathering is known only to the birds flying between Italy and France. With songs and dances, as Pulcinella loves, whether at the feast or sung out, proving and dancing the main tenets of the invited experts in this field.
– Workshops of the great masters of Commedia dell’Arte.
– Workshop of mask-making.
– Workshop of costume creation.
– And a practical part – embodying your character in the gardens of Moulin Jaune during the “Pulcinella La Vita Bella”.
The laboratory will take place in 3 moments :
June 2-5- The best and carefully selected masters will conduct workshops, classes, and lectures, as well as the process of creating masks, costumes, and embodying each one’s image of Pulcinella.
June 6 – Exam! And the presentation of your Pulcinella and his organic existence within the framework of the festival for young audiences.
June 7-9- Public appearances during the “Pulcinella La Vita Bella” Festival in the gardens of Moulin Jaune as a character.
The laboratory programme is designed for participation on all days, starting from the workshops and the creation of your character on June 2nd until the evening of the final day of the festival “Pulcinella La Vita Bella” on June 9.
For the activities, please bring comfortable clothing and shoes (heels are definitely not needed).
To create your Pulcinella character, a basic white costume is necessary – a hat, white trousers, pantaloons, etc. and a white shirt. It is also encouraged to have hunchbacks and fake bellies, which can be tied with a belt or rope. Light-colored shoes are recommended.

The cost of participation in the laboratory is- 700 Euros.
The price does not include accommodation, travel, and meals. After submitting the application and indicating your preferences, we can recommend accommodations close to Moulin Jaune.
Silliness is welcome! You can come with treats, as well as musical instruments of any kind. We invite everyone who dances, sings, or plays (underline the appropriate).
After all, Pulcinella loves to drink and sing! Pulcinella sings and drinks, even when no one is listening.
